The International Padel Federation (FIP) held its 34th General Assembly with the presence of presidents and representatives from national federations representing 46 countries. During the meeting, the decision to establish the Asian Padel Federation was approved, and Mr. Tariq Zainal, Secretary General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel & Badminton Federation, was elected as its president. Additionally, Luigi Carraro was re-elected as President of the International Padel Federation for a new term.
The meeting discussed the global growth of padel, particularly in Asia, and explored ways to elevate the sport, increase the number of participants, and support local federations. The discussion also highlighted FIP’s efforts to promote the sport, including the FIP ranking system, the importance of competitions, and encouraging federations to organize and support tournaments.
Following the meeting, Mr. Tariq Zainal expressed his great satisfaction with the decision to establish the Asian Padel Federation, noting that this achievement represents a new milestone for the continent and will contribute to the advancement of padel in Asia. He also expressed his deep gratitude for the trust shown by the members of the General Assembly in electing him as President of the Asian Padel Federation. He emphasized that his selection is a reflection of Qatar’s leadership in sports and its proven ability to host and organize major global tournaments, as well as its belief in the power of sports to bring people together. He pledged to work diligently to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him, aiming to spread and develop padel at the continental level.
