It will once again be Spain and Argentina, the most awaited national teams, who will play for the title at the FIP World Padel Championships in Doha. These are the results of the semi-finals played at the Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex, which led Spain and Argentina to meet on Saturday for the decisive challenge. The winner will rise to the top of the ranking for number of titles, which currently sees Spain and Argentina on 8-8.
Spain, for the first match of the tie against Portugal, fielded a very well-matched pair: Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, who also play together on the Premier Padel circuit. Triay/Fernandez beat Fernandes/Castro Vilela 6-1 6-0. The second and decisive point came from Ale Salazar and the returning Bea Gonzalez, who found the best way to celebrate her return to the court after injury: ‘Ale’ and ‘Bea’ gave up just one game (6-0 6-1) to Santos/Gaspar.
The second semi-final, between Argentina and Italy, was more uncertain. Chiara Pappacena and Giulia Sussarello tried to hold their own against Aranzazu Osoro and Julieta Bidahorria, who still managed to win with a double 6-4. Delfi Brea and Claudia Jensen completed the job with a 6-4 6-1 win over Carolina Orsi and Giorgia Marchetti, who had won the gold medal as a pair at the European Games in Krakow. For Portugal and Italy, however, a great result, with the chance of winning the bronze medal in the final for 3rd and 4th place.
Also on court on Saturday are the national teams competing for positions five to eight. Sweden and the Netherlands, after 2-1 to France and Brazil respectively, will play for fifth place, with the French and Brazilians competing for seventh place.
